Maria
Petschnig is an Austrian-born artist based in Brooklyn since 2003. Her artistic
work focuses on displacing traditional concepts of the female body
by exploring the close relationship between her body and clothing. Performance
is key to her work, which engages her drawings, sculptures and videos.
Maria
Petschnig studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, the Royal
College of Art, and the Wimbledon School of Art in London. Maria's
work has been shown in Europe and in the US. Her videos were recently included
in the Diagonale 07, The Festival of Austrian Film , Graz, Austria and in
The Perpetual Body, PAM, Scope Art Fair, NYC.
